The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients.

The purpose of this position is to provide qualified registered nurses the opportunity to consolidate their skills by rotating through a specialty nursing unit(s) prior to and/or during the undertaking of post graduate course work applicable to the relevant specialty nursing unit(s). Successful applicants will be expected to participate in and successfully complete the applicable post graduate specialty nursing courses/program within the agreed-to time frames.


Responsibilities

  1. Assesses patients and collects information from various sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Makes a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determines appropriate nursing interventions.
  2. Collaborates with patients and their families/caregivers in developing the care plan and encourages family participation in its ongoing modification.
  3. Participates in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring the care plan is established, implemented, and evaluated effectively.
  4. Coordinates nursing care for the patient; sets priorities, assigns and delegates tasks to support staff, and makes referrals to the interprofessional care team.
  5. Collaborates with members of the interprofessional care team in the identification and resolution of issues, adjustments to care plans as required, and changes in patient condition.
  6. Teaches patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention and health maintenance to help achieve health care goals.
  7. Plans and discusses referral information with patients and their families/caregivers and initiates referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies.
  8. Documents assessments, nursing diagnosis, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards.
  9. Participates on nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  10. Participates in research and quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues and recommending corrective actions.
  11. Attends in-services and other educational programs. Identifies learning goals and maintains current clinical competence.
  12. Provides feedback to the Manager regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs and clinical decision support tools.
  13. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of the applicable post graduate specialty nursing course/program and/or willingness to complete the applicable post graduate specialty nursing courses/program. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
