Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Medicine Hat is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Pediatrics Unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. You will deliver patient- and family-centred care to a diverse pediatric population with medical, surgical and psychiatric needs, guided by a collaborative interdisciplinary team.

Provisional Permit holders are paid CAD 40.76–CAD 55.79 per hour; upon full practice permit, pay aligns with the UNA rates.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with CRNA.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• 2-3 years acute care experience.
• PALS certification within 6 months of hire.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications

• 2-3 years acute care experience.
• PALS certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status.
• Patient transfer assessment skills.
• Communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific patients/clients, and to relay patient/client information to physicians who are often off-site in a concise, accurate manner in order to facilitate the physician’s treatment decisions.
• Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference given to those who have Pediatrics experience.
• Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent to Pediatric nursing preferred.
• Knowledge of new/current trends in Pediatrics nursing preferred.
• Current pediatric IV therapy/experience preferred.
• Pediatric Charge nurse experience preferred.
• Current knowledge of Cardio/Respiratory monitoring preferred.
• Pediatric Mental Health experience beneficial.
