Job description

Summary Of Duties

To provide a broad range of ambulatory oncology nursing care services for cancer patients and their families both in the clinical environment and over the telephone at the Odette Cancer Centre. Responsibilities include performing all aspects of patient care processes prescribed by physicians &/or Nurse Practitioners, in compliance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the Division of Oncology Nursing. Nursing duties encompass comprehensive health assessments, developing supportive & therapeutic relationships with patients & families, managing cancer symptoms & treatment side effects, teaching & coaching, facilitating continuity of care & navigation of the healthcare system, and supporting clinical decision-making & patient advocacy. The RN is expected to engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, leadership opportunities, and ongoing professional development.

The RN collaborates with the interprofessional team to manage oncology patients and their families throughout their cancer care journey, addressing physical, emotional, practical, psychological, informational, social, and spiritual needs. The RN is accountable for providing compassionate, high-quality nursing care using evidence-based interventions in accordance with oncology nursing competencies and CNO Standards of Practice. Supporting patients and families beyond the clinic through extensive telephone practice is a core focus, especially for managing patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
  • Experience in oncology and/or acute care nursing strongly preferred
  • Experience in ambulatory care nursing &/or telepractice preferred
  • Canadian Nurses’ Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C)) is an asset
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development
  • Computer literacy and typing skills are assets
  • CPR – Basic provider certification required
