Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is currently searching for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Notifiable Disease and Outbreak program team. Reporting to the Associate Manager Provincial Notifiable Disease and Outbreak, the RN provides education, follow up, reporting, expertise and consultation relating to communicable disease control. The RN will perform duties that include: preventing infection through education and implementation of public health measures including provision of prophylaxis, investigations and reporting for both routine notifiable diseases (ND) and rare or emerging diseases (e.g., Ebola, MPox and pandemic COVID-19), outbreak management in a variety of settings, responding to community blood and body fluid exposures and infection control breeches reported to the Medical Officer of Health, continuous active and passive monitoring and surveillance of communicable diseases in the community, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to identify barriers and issues to implementing public health recommendations, and to coordinate public health follow-up. Crucially the RN is a link between the local PHC public health centre and the provincial CDC program. The incumbent will perform a critical role in communication, development, implementation, and evaluation of province-wide CDC immunization and ND standards and guidelines in AHS for business operations and service delivery. The RN must bring dynamic written and verbal communication skills as they frequently engage in patient interviews and remote assessments in a complex healthcare environment. The RN participates in leading change and acts as the expert resource for internal AHS staff and external partners. This is a remote position that may require occasional travel into a designated CDC site depending on operational requirements. This position will end on or before the October 26, 2026.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse with 2 years' experience in the last 5 years at the equivalent of a 0.50 FTE or greater in a public health program. Minimum 1 year of experience in the last 5 years with practical application of an immunization program, schedule, and standards within a public health program is required. Ability to think critically in assessing and executing complex deliverables with minimal supervision and without standardized scripting. Ability to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities in a complex change-oriented environment. Computer proficiency with the ability to use multiple applications simultaneously in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Reliable internet access and ability to maintain a confidential workspace is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CDC databases (CD/OM, Meditech, Netcare, Connect Care), and software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
