Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Malignant Hematology Day Unit at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. The role is a temporary part-time contract with 37.5 hours weekly, offering complex cancer care including hematology and chemotherapy.

Applicants must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, have BCLS/CPR, and ideally a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with hematology/oncolgy experience.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completed Chemotherapy course
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) and CPR certification
  • Malignant Hematology experience preferred
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Central Venous Catheters, Port-a-cath and PICC lines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing process in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
  • Satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's Attendance Management Program
  • Experience delivering blood and blood products preferred

Shifts:8H, 10H and 12H shifts;Weekdays, Weekends and Holidays
Status:Temporary Part-Time (1 year contract)

Position Summary

The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has 12 site groups and 26 specialty clinics, and almost 3,000 staff who see over 400,000 patient visits every year. Its 800,000 square feet house 130 inpatient beds, 373,000 square feet of research space and 17 radiation treatment machines, making it one of the largest comprehensive cancer treatment facilities in the world and the largest radiation treatment centre in Canada.

Duties

  • Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN
  • Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure
  • Demonstrating commitment to professional lifelong learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession
  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care
  • Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
    • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
    • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred
    • Completed Chemotherapy course
    • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) and C.P.R. certification
    • Malignant Hematology experience preferred
    • Oncology experience preferred
    • Working knowledge of Central Venous Catheters, Port-a-cath and PICC lines
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Evidence of co-operative and facilitative relationships while working with a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to work independently
    • Evidence of good physical assessment, psycho-social, and patient/family teaching skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize the nursing process in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
    • Demonstrated leadership/in-charge skills, and evidence of strong organizational and decision-making skills
    • Evidence of commitment to self-directed learning
    • Satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's Attendance Management Program
    • Experience working with delivery of blood and blood products preferred
