Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator III focused on Leukemia/BMT within the CancerClinical Research Unit. The role supports trial coordination, patient care and data collection under ICH/GCP guidelines.

You will work with investigators and a multidisciplinary team, driving patient management across multiple protocols while maintaining meticulous documentation and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health or science is required.
  • Current RN registration with Ontario and oncology experience are essential.
  • Recognized certification in clinical research is expected or pursued.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing process, data collection and documentation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient visits and scheduling per protocol.
  • Recruit study participants and obtain informed consent.
  • Monitor adverse events and ensure data accuracy per ICH/GCP.
  • Provide clinical care and manage data collection within timelines.
  • Collaborate with investigators and CCRU nursing team on trials.

The role of nursing in clinical trials continues to evolve as a growing profession within nursing. It expands the nurse’s knowledge base, professional practice, autonomy and utilizes key elements of nursing practice such as patient assessment, critical thinking and holistic patient care. What is unique to this role is that all of these functions are within the realm of clinical trials. The Clinical Research Coordinator III collaborates with Investigators and the health care team to assume responsibility for the overall patient management and coordination of several clinical studies for the Department of Medical Oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital. The research nurse will work primarily with the Leukemia/BMT disease site team.

Duties
  • Recruitment of study participants (e.g. identify and screen potential subjects, obtain informed consent);
  • Coordination of patient visits schedules as per study protocol
  • Execution of all aspects of study visit (e.g. assessment of adverse events, monitoring safety, medication, questionnaires, sample collection, including processing and shipment of samples according to clinical protocol)
  • Provides clinical care for patients participating in clinical trials and the implementation and coordination of all aspects of data collection and source documentation within required timeframes, as per UHN policy and ICH/GCP guidelines.
  • Other study related activities, as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, or recognized equivalent, in a health or science-related discipline, required
  • Recognized certification in clinical research (ACRP or SOCRA) obtained or plans to work towards
  • Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 to 5 years clinical and/or professional experience, and
  • Minimum one (1) year clinical experience in oncology with strong knowledge base in Leukemia/BMToncology
  • Some experience in research contract budget management
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Attention to detail and meticulous documentation practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize the nursing process in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
  • Evidence of good physical assessment, psychosocial assessment and patient/family teaching skill
  • Previous clinical research experience preferred
  • Autonomous clinical critical thinking ability
  • Training in ICH/GCP guidelines an asset
  • Knowledge of IATA shipping regulations and basic laboratory procedures an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently with accuracy in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office software – Word, Excel and Power Point preferred.
