About the Postnatal Ambulatory Clinic

The Postnatal Ambulatory Clinic, located at Mount Sinai Hospital, provides outpatient support to postpartum patients and neonates requiring interim access to immediate care after discharge. This clinic sees approximately 15,000 visits annually, providing support to parents and their newborns in the immediate postpartum period including complex infant feeding support, neonatal bloodwork and newborn examination. Inpatient infant feeding teaching, support and planning are also provided to inpatients in the Postpartum, Antenatal and Labour and Delivery areas, or throughout the inpatient setting as needed.

In this role you will
  • Provide infant feeding support to in-patients on the postpartum unit as well as outpatients in the clinic setting
  • Complete neonatal bloodwork, newborn assessments and repeat newborn screening and Critical Congenital Heart Defect (CCHD) testing
  • Work collaboratively with ophthalmologists to perform retinopathy of prematurity eye exams for infants
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Job Requirements

Mandatory

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification. Applicants that have not completed this certification may be considered. This IBC(L) certification must be successfully completed within 1 year of hire. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Active Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider status. Applicants that have not completed this certification must complete and pay for their own certification within 3 months of hire

Preferred

  • A bachelor degree from a CNO-approved nursing program. Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered
  • Minimum 1 year recent experience in a lactation coordinator role in an ambulatory setting
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience in postpartum nursing
Skills and Knowledge
  • Well-developed patient-newborn physical/psychosocial assessment skills
  • Neonatal blood sampling skills
  • Experience developing and facilitating group teaching/learning sessions
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family centred care
