Job summary

Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) in East Toronto invites Registered Nurses to join its Intensive Care Unit as they grow into critical care roles with strong mentorship and a dedicated training pathway.

MGH will support and mentor novices to develop ICU competencies, preparing you for a placement in a fully funded Critical Care Nurse training program through an accredited college.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Critical Care Nursing Certificate from an Accredited College required, or must be willing to complete a Critical Care Nursing Training Program through an Accredited College.
• Current in BLS.

Responsibilities

• Support and mentor novice nurses to work independently in the ICU.
• Become Critical Care trained through the funded training program.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality ICU care.
• Participate in unit quality initiatives and patient safety practices.

• One year experience in an acute medical or surgical care unit preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to care for patients with basic care needs.
• Demonstrated motivation to pursue educational goals.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, leadership and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated ability to implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions.
• Demonstrated ability to participate in unit quality initiatives and measurements.
• Demonstrated understanding of accountability based practice.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good work and attendance record required.
• Must be prepared to work in all areas of Medicine Health Service (skills & abilities considered).
