Overview

Your Opportunity: The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre located in Alberta’s jewel of Fort McMurray is adding a Registered Intensive Care Unit Nurse to their supportive team. The ICU RN plans and implements patient care services to patients/clients or groups thereof, based on facility standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Your communication skills will be used daily as you work with a multi-disciplinary team to provide nursing care including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. You will use current principles, techniques, and procedures within specified guidelines. You can prioritize patient care according to acuity while providing assistance and direction to team members. You will provide safe and quality nursing care within the guidelines set forth by the licensing body within your scope of practice. This position will require shift work and lifting as part of patient care. Located in Fort McMurray, which resides on Treaty 8 territory and on the traditional lands of the Metis, the city offers a range of lifestyle and recreational opportunities. A Fort McMurray Allowance is in place, up to an annual maximum of $12,480, payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Note: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate per UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, ensuring safety and well‑being. You will use nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, and you will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance, while providing safe, quality patient- and family-centered care aligned with the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification is required before employment. Additional Required Qualifications: 2–3 years of current acute care experience as an RN, and 1–2 years of recent experience as an RN in an Intensive Care Unit or other Critical Care area. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Preferred Qualifications: Orientation Program for Adult Critical Care in Alberta (OPACCA) certification. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
