Canadian Blood Services in Vancouver, BC seeks a Temporary part-time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join our Collections team. The role covers donor centres and mobile events, with an emphasis on safety, documentation, and donor experience.

As a Registered Nurse, you will perform venipuncture, lead collection efforts as needed, and ensure accurate records. Flexibility in shifts and mobile-event travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • 2 years of nursing experience is an asset; First Aid and CPR certification are assets.
  • Experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances donor interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience by conducting registration and confidential screening.
  • Educate and empower donors on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff as needed.
  • Perform venipuncture according to standards and monitor donor safety.
  • Maintain accurate records across multiple systems for screening, collection, and packaging.
  • Set up booths and equipment for mobile donor events as required.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join our dynamic Collections team in our BC-Vancouver-Downtown, BC-Vancouver-Oak Stdonor centres and mobiles.

The Collections teamis responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you willassist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols, and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience by using your strong communication and client service skills to conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
  • Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Drawing on your knowledge and experience you willprovide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • You will apply your experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance by maintaining complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing your knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events within our communities, you will assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
Desired education and skills
  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province isrequired.

What you can expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers.
  • Travel will be required for mobile eventsin our communities, and transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs.).
