Job summary

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular part-time Donor Centre Associate - Blood Collection to join our dynamic Collections team in the SK-Regina-Albert St donor centre. You will perform phlebotomy, register donors, and provide a safe, high-quality experience face-to-face with donors.

You must have a high school diploma and phlebotomy training or related experience; strong customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary considered an asset.
  • Completion of accredited phlebotomy training or one year related experience; equivalent combinations considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive public-facing experience in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is an asset.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with Word and Outlook is beneficial.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Register and confidentially screen donors to determine eligibility and provide a positive donor experience.
  • Ensure safe processing and handling of blood products while respecting donor privacy.
  • Perform venipuncture according to established standards and provide post-donation care.
  • Maintain accurate product information in our computer system and assist with product labelling.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and share knowledge to enhance donor processes.
  • Assist at mobile events by setting up booths, tables, and equipment.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular part-timeDonor Centre Associate - Blood Collectionto join our dynamic Collections team in our SK-Regina-Albert Stdonor centre.

The Collections teamis responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood, and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection processin accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors, team members, and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process

  • Leveraging your superb client service skills and ability to communicate effectively with donors and your team, you will conduct registration and confidential screening todetermine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.
  • Your knowledge or experience in following procedures you will ensure safe processing and handling of blood products as well as respecting donor privacy
  • You will apply your experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Your excellent attention to detail will be utilized in ensuring accuracy of product information in our computer system, when completing the product labelling process, and when preparing products.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing your knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events within our communities, you willassist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
Desired education and skills
  • A high school diploma is required, and post-secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or one-year related experience.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs.Previous knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

What you can expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Travel will be required for mobile events in our communities, and transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs.).
