Job summary

Alberta Health Services invites an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Level I Emergency Department at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton. You’ll care for a diverse patient population across adult and pediatric emergencies, high acuity trauma, and transplant cases in a fast-paced, collaborative team.

Provisional Permit holders earn $40.76 to $55.79 per hour; upon obtaining a full practice permit, pay aligns with UNA Article 25.02.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the CRNA.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• 1 year Medical/Surgical or Acute Care RN experience within last two years.
• Ability to communicate findings concisely and accurately.
• Be on feet for extended periods and assist in patient handling as needed.
• Preferred: Emergency RN experience; ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP certificates.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year Medical/Surgical or Acute Care RN experience within the last two years required; however, equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organization and patient care skills required along with the ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of Emergency RN. 2 years of med/surg/acute care RN. Recent nursing in a tertiary/urban centre. Recent critical care in the last 2 years. ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP – Preference will be given to applicants with 3 of 6 (Must provide certificate prior to interview) Certified Emergency Nurse (CAN or CNE) an asset. Preference to those who can demonstrate excellent assessment skills, organizational skills, patient care skills, and leadership skills. Triage and/or charge nurse experience.
