Job summary

William Osler Health System in Brampton, Ontario, is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. The RN will provide patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment, adhering to nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements include active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, 2+ years in medical-surgical settings, and ACLS/BCLS compliance within six months of hire. There may be travel between Osler sites and rotating 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Minimum of two years experience in a medical surgical unit within the last five years.
• Emergency experience within the last five years preferred.
• Demonstrated competency in arrhythmia interpretation.
• BCLS required; ACLS, Heart and Stroke certified within six months of hire.
• Coronary Care I/II an asset; advanced life support trainings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safe nursing practice across assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
• Ensure patient safety and therapeutic environment through patient-centered care.
• Provide health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with team as needed.
• Travel between Osler sites may be required.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department. As part of the inter‑professional health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Accountabilities

• Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
• Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
• Professional, patient‑centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well‑being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
• Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
• Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures
• Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
• Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum of two years experience in a medical surgical unit is required (within the last five years)
• Emergency experience within the last five years is preferred
• Demonstrated competency in arrhythmia interpretation is required (including an 80% score on an arrhythmia quiz prior to interview phase)
• BCLS is required
• ACLS, Heart and Stroke certified, within six months of hire date is required
• Coronary Care I is an asset
• Coronary Care II is an asset
• Trauma Nursing Core Course, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Emergency Nursing Course (c) is preferred

• Ability to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelines
• Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Additional Information

Hours: Currently Days/Nights 12 hours shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary

Minimum: $40.24 per hour

Maximum: $57.68 per hour
