The Cardiac Unit Nurse participates as a team member of a multidisciplinary unit who, under the Health Services Manager, is responsible for performing the nursing requirements necessary for all the invasive procedures performed by the physician of the Cardiac Unit. The unit consists of 4 Catheterization procedural rooms and 2 Electrophysiology procedural rooms. As a member of the team, you will be trained to work in all areas. After your initial training, you will be required to be on call for after-hours emergency cases. The frequency of these cases can vary with an average of 1 in every 7-8 weekdays and 1 in every 7-8 weekends. Call frequency may increase during periods of staffing vacancies and during coverage for vacations and holidays.
The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span.
The RN provides clinical leadership, particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. This individual has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice. the RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. In addition, the RN is responsible and accountable for their nursing practice and conduct as defined by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing and for ensuring that their registration is current and valid.

Where there are no qualified applicants possessing a critical care course or critical care experience, consideration may be given to Registered Nurses with two years of experience in clinical cardiology nursing who agree to take the first available part-time Critical Care Nursing Program and complete it within two years of the date of hire. The program costs and employee salary will be paid for by the employer in exchange for a one year return of service once the course is completed. Continued employment is contingent upon successfully completing the program within the two-year time frame.
Physical Limitations: Required to wear a heavy lead apron during procedures.

($51.74 hourly with 25 years of RN experience)
