Job description

Summary Of Duties

The main functions of the RN include, but are not limited to: patient assessment, intervention, education, and patient advocacy. The RN sets up and assists with Diagnostic and Interventional procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab, including but not limited to Vascular and Coronary Angiography, Angioplasty, Stenting, IVUS, Rotablation, TAVI, MitraClip, and other procedures. Responsibilities also include the implantation of Pacemakers and Internal Cardiac Defibrillators, Electrophysiology Studies and Ablations, as well as scrub, circulate, and perform hemodynamic monitoring of patients. The RN uses Power Injector procedures in the Cath Lab, and is responsible for the preparation and recovery of patients in B3. The role requires regular wearing of lead aprons during shifts.

The RN supports the Philosophy of Patient-Centred Care and aligns with the Mission and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The RN works closely with other members of the multi-professional team.

Qualifications/Skills
  • Current Certification with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • BCLS and ACLS required
  • Emergency Nursing Certificate or Critical Care Certificate required
  • Coronary Care Certificate is an asset
  • Recent clinical experience in a Cath Lab or equivalent setting is an asset
  • Electrophysiology experience is an asset
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing and stressful environment positively
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two years
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, organization, priority setting, problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to patient care
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
