Program: Women's Mobile Primary Care (WMPC)
Position Type: Part-time
Hours: 0.2 FTE – 0.3 FTE (8 - 12 hours/week)

Union: BCGEU-Certified Union Position
Hourly Rate: $41.92/hour (Step 1) – $55.91/hour (Step 10)
Benefits: Eligible for benefits and pension after three months of employment

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) within the Women's Mobile Primary Care Program plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, culturally safe healthcare services to women in the DTES community of Vancouver. Reporting to the Program Manager, the RN provides comprehensive nursing care, including health promotion, disease prevention, assessment, treatment, and referral services, while adhering to principles of cultural safety and regulatory standards in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical exams, medical history reviews, and psychosocial assessments, to address women’s healthcare needs in a culturally safe manner.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to promote wellness aligned with an Indigenous health perspective.
  • Provide evidence-based nursing interventions and administer prescribed medications and treatments, maintaining accurate records.

2. Health Promotion and Education:

  • Educate women on preventive health measures, self-care strategies, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to create health promotion initiatives tailored to DTES women's needs.
  • Engage in ongoing training focused on culturally safe care, anti-racism, and decolonization.

3. Referral and Coordination of Care:

  • Refer clients to appropriate healthcare providers and community resources for further management of health issues.
  • Ensure continuity of care for clients transitioning between healthcare settings.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare reports on program activities, outcomes, and quality improvement initiatives.

5. Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Work respectfully with interdisciplinary team members, including social workers, cultural support workers, and Knowledge Keepers, to deliver holistic care rooted in Indigenous health models.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including workshops and conferences, to stay current on best practices.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
  • Licensure: Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in Indigenous primary care, DTES community health, or women’s health settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe care to Indigenous Peoples and racialized communities.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, standards, and practices in British Columbia.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and relevant clinical applications.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS); additional certifications in women’s health are assets.
Working Conditions
  • Mobile healthcare setting, providing services at various DTES community locations.
  • May require shift work and travel between service sites and outreach locations.
