Job summary

Casey House is seeking two Registered Nurses for its inpatient team on a regular, part-time basis. The role is on-site with 12-hour shifts, a mix of days and nights, up to 30 hours weekly, and a 48/52 availability requirement.

The wage grid ranges from $41.15 to $58.98 per hour. You will work closely with physicians and an allied health team in a sub-acute unit offering supervised consumption services, complex medical and psychiatric care.

Qualifications

  • Current CNO registration in good standing.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Clinical experience in acute HIV care or harm reduction is an asset.
  • Membership in RNAO/CANAC/ANAC is an asset.
  • Ability to work in an interprofessional team.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and medication administration standards.
  • People-centered care approach.
  • Proficient with electronic health records; EPIC is a plus.
  • Reliability and good attendance.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and culturally safe care.

Responsibilities

  • Develop meaningful nurse-client relationships using harm reduction, anti-oppressive, social justice, and trauma-informed framework.
  • Participate in quality improvement, infection prevention, and adherence to best practices.
  • Support a safe, inclusive environment and promote equity in care delivery.
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Collaborate daily with an interprofessional team for coordinated, evidence-informed care.
  • Promote health education and adherence to treatment along with harm reduction strategies.
  • Deliver direct patient care across palliative, wound care, post-surgical, cancer care, rehabilitation, and mental health areas.
  • Mentor students and new staff.
  • Model Casey House values and philosophy of care.

Job description

Casey House is unlike any other hospital. We are a specialty hospital providing ground-breaking holistic care for people living with and at risk of HIV. We currently have an opportunity for two(2) Registered Nursesto join our Inpatient team on a regular, part-timebasis (OPSEU bargaining unit).

Hours of Work: 12-hour shifts scheduled on weekdays and weekends, with a mix of day and night shifts required. Up to 30 hours per week. This is a fully on-site position. As a regular part-time employee, you must be available to work at least 48 out of 52 weeks per year.

Salary :9 step wage grid ($41.15 to $58.98 hourly)

Develop your mental health and harm reduction skills in a sub-acute inpatient unit housed in a modern light-filled, purpose-built facility. Nurses work in partnership with physicians and an allied health team to provide values-led care for 14 patients with diverse needs. Engage in bedside nursing with a harm reduction approach to care for clinically complex medical issues, including opportunistic infections, early aging, oncologic and cardiovascular health concerns, often coupled with psychiatric and substance use challenges. Casey House is the first to offer hospital-based supervised consumption services (SCS), available right on the unit.
More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will entail, but are not restricted to:

  • Developing meaningful nurse-client relationships by using a harm reduction, anti-oppressive, social justice, and trauma-informed framework
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection prevention, and adherence to best practices.
  • Support a safe and inclusive environment, respecting diversity and promoting equity in care delivery.
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to clients with complex medical needs including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Collaborate daily with an interprofessional team to ensure coordinated, high-quality, evidence-informed care.
  • Promote health education, adherence to treatment, and other harm reduction strategies.
  • Direct client care, encompassing but not limited to palliative care, advanced wound care, post-surgical recovery, care for clients undergoing cancer care, rehabilitation, and mental health support.
  • Mentors students, and new staff.
  • Role model practice with Casey Houses’ values and philosophy of care.
About You:

In order to qualify for this role, you will need to be actively registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing,as well as a minimum 2 years of general nursing experience.

The following qualifications will ensure your success in this role:

  • Current member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), entitled to practice without restrictions.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Clinical experience working in acute care, HIV care, or harm reduction environments is an asset. Experience working with marginalized communities, including people who use drugs, people experiencing homelessness, 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous, and African Caribbean Black populations is an asset.
  • Membership in RNAO, CANAC and/or ANAC is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interprofessional team.
  • Knowledge and application of evidence-informed practice, infection prevention and control, and medication administration standards.
  • Good understanding of the principles of people-centered care.
  • Excellent nursing assessment, critical thinking, clinical judgment, care planning, communication, and documentation skills in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)standards and hospital policies.
  • Proficient in the use of electronic health records (Experience with EPIC is an asset)
  • Strong record of reliability and attendance
  • Commitment to continuous learning, quality improvement, and culturally safe care.
