Overview

Canadian Blood Services is looking for Casual Registered Nurses to join our dynamic Collections Operations West Nanaimo team. The Collections Team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives. In this role you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build a positive donor experience.
  • Provide donors with information, instruction and advice on blood donation.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • Work in a diverse team environment assisting in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components.
  • Assist in setting up mobile events (booths, tables and equipment) to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province.
  • Two years of nursing experience is an asset; certification in First Aid and CPR is also an asset.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook and the ability to learn new systems and programs.

What you can expect
  • Applicant must be willing to travel. Work days may include Monday through Friday with one 3-night overnight stay in Campbell River every 12 weeks. Shift start and end times are as follows: 000.
  • Travel between Duncan and Campbell River is required, including mobile events in the community; transportation provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs).
