Scope of the Role:

TheRegistered Nurse (RN)reports to the Director of Care and is expected to coordinate and oversee all aspects of resident-focused delivery of care. Provide direct supervision, leadership, and education to other members of the healthcare team. Acts as a resource and advocate for residents, families, and staff. promote the values, goals, and philosophy of the Home.

Responsibilities:

  • Embody our person-centred living philosophy
  • Develop and update individualized care plans based on residents’ health and condition changes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, care team, external providers, and families.
  • Maintain positive relationships with residents, families, staff, and the community.
  • Supervise unit activities and assume charge when needed.
  • Assign, evaluate, and provide coaching to PSWs and RPNs.
  • Promote resident-first care aligned with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
  • Use leadership to resolve unit issues and ensure quality care through shift rounds.
  • Process physician orders and administer medications per standards and policies.
  • Document and report medication errors, incidents, and nursing care accurately.
    Manage nursing supplies and equipment efficiency.
  • Monitor residents’ health changes and communicate with SDMs/POAs and care teams.
  • Complete health assessments (including RAI-MDS) and update care plans collaboratively.
  • Follow Ministry and Home requirements, including mandatory reporting and incident protocols.
  • Address resident and family concerns respectfully and promptly.
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or outlined in the Job Task Inventory.

Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse, or registration with a Canadian regulatory authority (outside Ontario) meeting the Bill 60 “as of right” exemption for independent practice.
  • Valid Basic CPR certification.
  • Experience in a long-term care setting is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS; AIS certification required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrated empathy and ability to turn tasks into positive social interactions.
  • Commitment to meeting legal requirements while promoting individual rights and reducing risk.
  • French speaking an asset

Compliance & Health Requirements:

  • A current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) completed within the past six months, or willingness to obtain one.
  • TB test results dated within the last six months, or within 14 days of hire; alternatively, a chest X-ray completed within the last year, in accordance with Public Health guidelines.
  • Proof of all required vaccinations must be provided. Staying "up to date" with recommended vaccines is strongly encouraged. Requirements are subject to change based on Employer directives.
