Job Summary
Reporting to and receiving direction from the Clinical Practice Leader, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides primary care nursing services to students in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario, as well as the policies and procedures of Student Wellness Services (SWS) that are specific to the clinical setting. These policies and procedures are based on best practice. The RN assesses client needs, plans, implements and evaluates the best course of action for the client. The RN collaborates with other disciplines on the health care team at SWS including physicians, nurse practitioners, counsellors, allied health, clinic managers, and administrative staff as well as other resources in the community. Experienced nurses are responsible for orientation and supervision of new nursing staff under the guidance of the Clinical Practice Leader.
The incumbent would have experience in one or more of the following work settings or related fields: acute care, such as urgent care, public health or infectious disease, or primary care clinic (family health team). The RN is self-directed and motivated with a patient-centered approach to efficient delivery of primary care services.
The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work occasional evenings on a rotational basis during fall and winter terms. At this time days of work are Monday to Friday only.
This position provides comprehensive front-line assessment and triage of students who present with a wide range of health concerns. This position meets with students to perform triage and assessments, provides advice and care within the scope of practice, and refers students to appropriate resources as necessary. This position performs specific nursing procedures or treatments independently or in accordance with medical directives or individual physicians' orders. This position also responds to escalated enquiries from students, and parents regarding health-related concerns.
