Job summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Covenant Health participates in nursing assessments, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, and evaluating patient progress within the Centre for Diabetes Care. Working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, you educate patients and families and ensure safe, quality care.

Based at Lakewood Community Health Centre, this regular part-time role (0.84 FTE) offers opportunities for outreach, teaching, and contributing to person-centred diabetes care

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent.
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
  • If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five years, completion of CRNA Medication Administration Certificate and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification is required.

Job description

Functions as a member of the Centre for Diabetes Care interdisciplinary team to deliver in depth diabetes treatment and education to patients and their families. Utilizes expert comprehensive nursing skills through assessment, planning implementation and evaluation to provide safe patient care. May participate in community outreach activities for public and professional activities.

Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications

Additional Required Qualifications

2-3 years Outpatient education or In-patient clinical experience in diabetes required.Teaching experience (group & individual) in a health environment is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Diabetes Education or equivalent courses is highly preferred. Teaching experience (group & individual) in a health care environment. Proficient teaching skills to promote accurate patient self-care skills, proven competency in group teaching and individual patient counselling. Proficiency in using specialized equipment, e.g. glucose meters, insulin pumps. Proficiency in performing physical and psychosocial assessments.
