Job summary

Covenant Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Surgery Float Pool GNCH at Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton. The RN will perform assessments, plan care, administer medications, monitor progress, and coordinate discharge planning with family involvement, under UNA terms.

The role requires CRNA registration in Alberta, BLS Level C, and at least 1 year of surgical or acute care experience; post-employment screening and a supportive, faith-based workplace are provided.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.
• Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
• If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of CRNA Medication Administration and NextGenU Health Assessment resources is required.

Both units are high acuity, high patient turnover and high intensity. Both units provide an equally challenging environment working alongside supportive teams. Unit 41 is the inpatient unit for the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre specializing in vascular surgery. The patient population also consists of general surgery, orthopedics and plastics. Unit 42 is the main inpatient unit for general surgery, gynecological surgery, orthopedics, plastics and ENT. Both teams strive to provide the best in patient care with a focus on engaging both patients and family in care delivery.

Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year surgical or acute care nursing experience and/or a successful completion of surgical preceptorship within the last year is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Inpatient surgical experience within the last 2 years would be an asset.
