Job description

This position is part of the Primary Care Alberta (PCA) South Public Health Nursing department and is located at or out of the Coaldale Health Centre. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is an integral member of the PCA Public Health (PH) team, delivering integrated, strength-based, family-centered public health services in clinic and outreach settings. This role supports the South PH program and other public health initiatives, providing holistic care to individuals, families, groups, and communities with a focus on diversity and the social determinants of health.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year of experience within the last 3 years as a Public Health Nurse providing generalist PHN services in perinatal, postpartum caregiver/newborn, well-child, immunization, communicable disease, and tuberculosis programs. Experience working with infants, children, adults, families, diverse cultures, and vulnerable populations. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community partners. Strong knowledge of health promotion, social determinants of health, supportive counselling, and health education.Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound nursing judgment, and function effectively within a team environment. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with diverse client populations.Proficient in electronic medical record documentation and technology, including email, word processing, data entry systems, MS Office, Netcare, and Connect Care.Adheres to infection prevention and control practices. Physically able to transport up to 25 lbs. of equipment; walk extended distances; climb stairs while carrying supplies; perform repetitive movements, bending, kneeling, twisting, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; work in outreach settings with variable ergonomic conditions; respond safely to emergencies; and independently perform certified BLS skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills/experience/knowledge relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered.Experience working independently in a rural Public Health office within the last 2 years.Recent nursing experience in maternal/child, labour/delivery, NICU and/or pediatrics units.Breastfeeding and/or Prenatal Education experience or certification, CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing.
