Job summary

Island EMS Inc. in Charlottetown seeks a Casual Nurse to provide client assessments and develop management plans. You will engage in education and support, delivering trauma-informed care in both individual and group settings.

Minimum qualifications include a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and 1–3 years of relevant experience. The role requires registration eligibility with provincial nursing authorities. This is an on-demand position with flexible hours available.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of nursing experience in hospital and/or community setting.
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island.
  • Good previous work and attendance record.

Responsibilities

  • Complete initial and ongoing client assessments including substance use history.
  • Provide education and support to clients in individual and group formats.
  • Develop case management plans in collaboration with the client.

Job description

Position Type: Casual - Occasionnel

Pay Range: $44.26 - $55.29 per hour

Hours: On demand – days and evenings as required (7am‑7pm & 10am‑10pm shifts)

Responsibilities
  • Complete initial and ongoing client assessments including substance use history, suicide risk assessment and Best Possible Medication History (BPMH)
  • Assess client to determine the most appropriate service
  • Provide education and support to clients in individual and group formats
  • Develop case management plans in collaboration with the client
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary services as required
  • Provide recovery‑based, client/family‑focused, trauma‑informed care
  • Educate clients on harm reduction strategies
  • Perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with extensive experience in clinical area (may be considered)
  • 1–3 years of nursing experience in hospital and/or community setting
  • Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island
  • Solid knowledge of chemical dependency and substance use
  • Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and individual and group communication skills
  • Good previous work and attendance record
  • Knowledge of the Provincial Mental Health Act
  • Additional relevant education and experience considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience using the Telus EMR considered an asset
