Your Opportunity:
The Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a dynamic 14 bed level III medical/surgical neonatal intensive care unit that cares for high risk neonates with complex medical/surgical concerns from all over southern Alberta. With no maternal care at ACH all patients are referred from other centers to access our specialized care. Working in our unit will give the incumbent experiences in neonatal neuro-critical care, medical cardiology, and complex general surgery just to name a few of our areas of expertise. The ACH NICU fosters a culture and camaraderie within our close-knit multi-disciplinary team. Our team celebrates successes and faces challenges head on together through our mutual respect, openness and support of one another. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate the delivery of nursing care for the sick and critically ill neonate in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Registered Nurse will participate in family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Registered Nurse will be able to maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers, and be able to independently manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a strong Family Centered Care philosophy are required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Minimum 2 years current ACH NICU experience. Active NRP certification. May consider applicants with 2 years L&D or 2 years Pediatric Critical Care (ICU/ER) or 3 years pediatric experience. Current is within previous 5 year. 2 years of current critical care experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Medical/Surgical NICU experience within last 5 years. Minimum 3 years level III NICU experience within the last 5 years. NRP certification. PICU experience within the last 5 years. Completion of a post-basic graduation neonatal certificate. CNA Neonatal ICU certification. Participation in unit-based committee/group work in last 2 years. Demonstrated Leadership (charge experience, chair of group, teaching). Prior experience with Connect Care.
