Island Health’s Department of Midwifery is seeking a full-time Registered Midwife to provide maternity care to families in the Oceanside community, including Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and surrounding areas. This position is for a midwife dedicated to providing full scope midwifery care services including antenatal, postpartum and home birth support to local families with Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) as their primary hospital site for planned hospital birth.

NRGH is a 224-bed regional referral hospital with a modern perinatal unit featuring single-room maternity care and a Level II Special Care Nursery. At NRGH the successful candidate will join a team of 14 permanent midwives. NRGH supports approximately 1,200 births annually, with midwives attending nearly 35% of deliveries. The successful applicant must be eligible for full licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and demonstrate appropriate education, training, and experience.

Registered midwives in British Columbia provide comprehensive, client-centered care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Midwives practice autonomously in both community and hospital settings, offering home and hospital births while working collaboratively with obstetricians, family physicians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care for families.
