Job Summary
Kinesiologist at Canadian Shield Health Care Services will work in the Rehabilitation Services Department under direct reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation Services. Kinesiologist will be responsible for completing physical assessments and treatment plans independently or jointly with a physiotherapist. They will be responsible for developing SMART and patient centered rehabilitation goals, making appropriate referrals and recommendations to internal and/or external agencies pertaining to patient care needs, and collaborate with Physiotherapist Assistants/Rehabilitation Assistants in care delivery to the patients.

✓ Completing physical tests, functional exams and treatment of clients with acute, subacute or chronic neuromusculoskeletal conditions while maintaining the standards of practice as laid out by College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
✓ Discuss test findings with the rehabilitation team Physiotherapist and/or interdisciplinary team and collaborate to carry out most appropriate plan for optimum recovery of the individual client.
✓ Using evidence informed best practice treatment and interventional guidelines while providing client care to maintain optimum functioning.
✓ Duly maintain thorough documentation, clinical reports, and clinical charts on Telus Collaborative Health Record (electronic medical reporting platform at Canadian Shield Healthcare Services), that meets reporting standards from College of Kinesiologists of Ontario and Canadian Shield Health Care Services.
✓ Designing the therapeutic exercise programs and educational plans for patients and rehabilitation team.
✓ Providing mentorship and training to Physiotherapist Assistant/Rehabilitation Assistants, students completing their clinical placements and other members of the Rehabilitation Services Team as identified and deemed appropriate to ensure optimum and safe delivery of care to the patients.
✓ Actively participate and collaborate in the interdisciplinary clinical team rounds to keep up to date on care and progress of each individual client, propose evidence informed alternative treatment options and best practice guidelines to help with optimum recovery of a patient.
✓ Actively participate and contribute to designing and development of new programs, successful delivery of new services and resource development within Canadian Shield Health Care Services.
✓ Relationship management with internal staff and department, key stakeholders, external agencies, community partners, primary healthcare providers, hospital and home and community care contacts.
✓ Be an important and reliable rehabilitation professional resource and role model for rest of the rehabilitation team members and other interdisciplinary team members for clinical information on rehabilitation services.
✓ Occasional travelling to other satellite sites of Canadian Shield Health Care Services.
✓ Identification and reporting of process improvements, gaps in services and service delivery, gaps in rehabilitation department processes and staff training (continuous quality improvement initiatives).
✓ Professional obligation and adherence to patient confidentiality.
✓ Maintains clear and regular communication with Rehabilitation Services Manager at Canadian Shield Health Care Services regarding any key issues within the rehabilitation department related to but not limited to equipment management, patient management, services, human resources, or operational challenges.
✓ Understands and implements infection prevention policies and best practices in therapy gym.
✓ Routine inspection and cleaning of therapeutic equipment’s, updating equipment cleaning and maintenance log, maintenance of therapeutic equipment and supply inventory.
✓ Adhering to and implementing health and safety standards of the clinic and organization.
✓ Participates in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education and professional development activities to keep up to date on recent advances and evidence-based clinical best practices in rehabilitative care.
✓ Works cooperatively with other departments within Canadian Shield Health Care Services to meet patient needs and/or as assigned.
✓ Knowledge and familiarity of Healthcare Ethics and Delivery of Kinesiology services in Canadian context.
✓ Experience working in an interdisciplinary team and collaboration of care within interdisciplinary team to help patient achieve optimum recovery.
✓ Knowledge of various community resources for healthcare provision and continuum of care is an asset.
✓ Geriatric knowledge and experience are considered an asset.
✓ Operating knowledge and experience in using exercise prescription platforms/software.
✓ Ability to prioritize professional duties, manage multiple patients, work in a fast paced and complex clinical environment and efficiently organize workload.
✓ Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet) and Microsoft Office 365.
✓ Ability to communicate effectively and clearly through various mediums including and not limited to verbal communications, written communications, and presentations.
✓ Exceptional interpersonal skills; rationale thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills in complex situations; demonstrated empathy and compassion towards patient care.
✓ Ability to handle difficult situations and conflict resolution in an objective and consistent manner.
✓ Ability to work independently, as well as effectively collaborate within an interprofessional team setting.
✓ Completion of a Bachelors’ or Masters’ Program in Kinesiology/Human Kinetics from a recognized University.
✓ Current registration in good standing with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
✓ Candidates in the process of or with intention to get their Kinesiology registration soon with College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
✓ Proof of professional liability insurance (for Registered Kinesiologists).
