Queen Elizabeth PS Early Learning Centre
Hours of Work: The hours of work rotate through fluid shift rotations from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday. This is a Union exempt position in a program that runs 12 months per year.
Under the direction of the Manager of Early Learning, the Early Childhood Educator (Infant, Toddler and Preschool Program) provides high quality and effective play-based education to support enhanced learning and cognitive, emotional, and social development in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act; CCEYA and the policies established by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Using a strong working knowledge and application of How Does Learning Happen, Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years, as well as the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice that is integrated into their daily practice. The Early Childhood Educator also provides a safe and caring environment for the needs of infant, toddler, and preschool children.
A thorough understanding of early childhood development and its application in the infant, toddler preschool environment. The incumbent must have strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal with parents and involved community services and has the ability to use tact and discretion; demonstrates sensitivity to the individual needs of children in a multicultural environment; demonstrates initiative and creativity and adapts well to changing demands. Ability to work with minimum supervision, and must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.
These skills would normally be acquired through completion of a two-year community college program in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent. Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required. A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is required. Valid First Aid certification/CPR is required.
