In collaboration with the health care team, the Registered Dietitian will provide nutritional care to children/families by assessing nutritional status and identifying, preventing and rectifying nutritional problems. The area of coverage is the Genetic Metabolics Program.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Nutritional assessments, plans and interventions for infants, children and adolescents with inborn errors of metabolism (such as phenylketonuria and aminoacidopathies, fatty acid oxidation defects, and glycogen storage diseases, with attention to medical complexity, weight and growth, biochemistry, and additional factors impacting metabolic control and nutritional status, such as pubertal development, and physical activity.
- Collaborate with a highly effective and motivated interprofessional team.
- Provide safe and appropriate medical nutritional therapy to patients.
- Monitor the effectiveness of nutrition intervention and care.
- Provide education to patients and caregivers on dietary management of genetic metabolic disorders.
- Act as a resource to children/families, other health care professionals and referral centers on nutrition education and management of inborn errors of metabolism.
Here's What You'll Need
- Baccalaureate degree in Nutrition. Master's degree is considered an asset.
- Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- Experience in Pediatrics.
- Experience in Genetic Metabolic disorders and/or PKU is an asset.
- Experience in enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Acute care management
- Experience working in acute and chronic care settings.
- Experience in individual and group education or counseling- both in person and using virtual platforms.
- Effective counseling skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of the health care team and to take initiative and leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, creativity and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills- with emphasis on enteral nutrition management.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and efficient time management.
- Demonstrated belief in lifelong learning and evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
