Regional Woodlands Operations Manager, Timmins, Ontario

When you join our team as a Regional Woodlands Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing a multidisciplinary woodlands operations team focused on all aspects of forest management operations designed to safely and sustainably supply logs to various wood manufacturing facilities across Northeast Ontario. This role reports directly to our General Manager, Forestry - Eastern Operations, and can either be based in Timmins or Elk Lake, Ontario.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee, manage and hold accountable the Timmins and Elk Lake Woodlands operations team in achieving their objectives.
  • Support a multi-disciplinary team accessing, harvesting and delivering approx 1.5 million m3 to various wood manufacturing facilities across Northeast Ontario.
  • Ensure that Woodlands operations are being carried out safely, legally, and efficiently and adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, submit and manage operating budgets and capital expenditures in order to achieve determined performance indicators.
  • Exercise your leadership to put in place winning conditions to develop and maintain a work environment that promotes collaboration and mobilization of employees and external partners.
  • Exercise your leadership to promote the sharing of information and communication within teams, strengthen commitment, autonomy and accountability.
  • Ensure the management, supervision and professional development of your team members in order to enhance the level of skills and expertise offered.
  • Play a key role in organizational changes, planning, hiring, and integrating new staff.
  • Be able to deal with regulatory authorities and ensure Company compliance.

What You Offer

  • 10+ years’ experience in all aspects of forest operations such as service contract negotiations in line with road construction, harvesting and log haul related operations.
  • The desire and appetite to support your team daily on the front lines.
  • Education in forestry or forest management, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of forestry regulations (Crown Forest Sustainability Act) and OH&S Act & Regulations.
  • Experience in health and safety, operations analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules to meet the operational needs.
  • Demonstrate inspiring leadership.
  • Commitment to high safety and environmental standards.
  • Ability to meet changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and solve problems.
