Regional Leader, Clinical Medical Physics

BC Cancer - Vancouver

Position: Regular, Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

Location: Vancouver, BC

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Regional Cancer Centre, the Regional Leader in Clinical Medical Physics is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the physics staff activities. This includes providing clinical treatment, calibrating and commissioning equipment, training students and technicians, and conducting research on techniques and equipment. The role involves developing the department's vision aligned with the mission and strategic goals of PHSA and BC Cancer, representing the centre in provincial decision-making, and managing service priorities, resources, and quality improvements.

The department oversees 40 staff members, including medical physicists, residents, assistants, technologists, and graduate students from UBC.

What you'll do

  1. Provide leadership to the medical physics team in accordance with high standards and regulatory requirements.
  2. Develop and evaluate annual operational and capital budgets aligned with organizational strategies.
  3. Coordinate strategic priorities, including program development, accreditation, and quality assurance, while managing staff development.
  4. Assess resource use and supply issues to promote safety, access, and efficiency.
  5. Foster research, education, and innovation, ensuring standards and quality outcomes.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in medical physics from a CAMPEP-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Completion of a CAMPEP residency and at least 15 years of related experience.
  • CCPM or ABR certification, with Fellowship (FCCPM) preferred.
  • Recognition in the field, including research and academic involvement.
  • Proven teaching and supervisory experience.

You have:

  • High standards in medical radiation therapy physics services.
  • Knowledge of professional practice issues and legislation.
  • Experience in advancing practice, strategic initiatives, and managing people and budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and reconciliation efforts, with knowledge of related reports and legislation.

Additional Details

Salary Range: $187,972 - $281,960, commensurate with experience.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
