This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to a designated Canadian GM Facility, three times per week at minimum.
GM is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation. Our Global Workplace Safety team is working to create a safe and healthy workplace free from injuries and illnesses.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated Industrial Hygiene specialist to support GM North America Manufacturing Operations. You will develop qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments at US and Canadian facilities, oversee the work of UAW-IH Technicians at US Sites, and serve as a Subject Matter Expert on various IH topics based on your focus and our needs. Collaboration with site safety teams to develop solutions for IH-related issues is essential.
The successful candidate will embody GM behaviors and competencies, possess a working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene fundamentals and exposure assessment methods, and demonstrate proficiency in leading IH activities through facilitation, teamwork, and relationship building, with a passion for workplace health and safety.
What you’ll do:
- Provide site/Customer consultation regarding implementation of Corporate and GMNA Industrial Hygiene policies and procedures.
- Facilitate communication between IH manager, Site Safety & IH work teams, and NA Group Safety Manager for assigned facilities.
- Support the Workplace Safety System, especially IH-related Performance and Technical standards.
- Implement action items aligned with the Business Plan.
- Recommend, oversee, and conduct site IH surveys, including air sampling and laboratory coordination.
- Ensure site air sample plans, ventilation checks, hazardous materials control processes, MRF Mist Maps, and sound surveys are performed as required.
- Interpret industrial hygiene data and advise local management.
- Provide training and consultation for local IH resources, including UAW Industrial Hygiene Technicians.
- Advise on chemical management with hazardous material committees and health & safety committees.
- Interpret and communicate relevant standards and GM requirements.
- Support the maintenance of industrial hygiene equipment.
- Conduct or oversee annual IH assessments and provide feedback to management.
- Assist with regulatory, workers' compensation, or labor relations issues.
- Perform any necessary special assignments.
- Travel to GM Canada and US locations as needed.
