Reporting to the Wildfire Facilities Program Lead, the Regional Facility Coordinator facilitates the delivery of the Wildfire Management Branch’s Facilities Program in the West Central Alberta area, including Whitecourt, Edson, Hinton and Grande Cache.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring all forestry facilities are fully operational and in compliance with Health and Safety standards, as well as Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Fire, and Building Codes.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of existing infrastructure and coordinating capital upgrades or replacement projects as required.
  • Managing contracts for all facility maintenance and capital projects, including the direct supervision of contractors.
  • Monitoring and managing facility maintenance and capital spending across your assigned region.
  • Supporting broader forestry programs and the operational needs of the Wildfire Management Branch by maintaining the safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance of all infrastructure.

  • Qualifications

    Two-year technical diploma in a related field such as construction trade such as carpenter, electrician, communication electrician, plumber, gasfitter, welder plus four years related experience; or equivalent as described below.

    A Journeyperson Certificate in a construction trade such as carpentry, electrical or plumbing is required, supplemented by a minimum of two years additional directly related experience in the facility and construction field with extensive project supervision; or a two (2) year construction trade diploma with at least 4 years directly related experience.

    Equivalency : Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of : 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or vice versa.

    Additional Requirement : A valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.

    Assets :

  • Journeyperson certificate in a construction trade, ie. carpenter, electrician, communication electrician, plumber, gasfitter, welder etc.
  • An excellent working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, sub trades, building codes and OH&S regulations.
  • Knowledge of contract administration / inspection work and supervision of staff and contractors.
  • Minimum of five years in the facility and construction field with extensive project supervision and project management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods, practices, material and equipment for large or complex jobs.
  • The ability to identify and appropriately solve contract and administration problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and other financial tracking software or databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required when dealing with contractors, consultants, public and departmental staff.
  • First aid.
  • Fall protection training.
  • WHIMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods(TDG), and Ground Disturbance.
  • This is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evenings and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.

    Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
