We are looking for a Regional Director, IRAP. The Regional Director, IRAP would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) itself is home to one of the country’s best known small and medium-sized innovative company support programs – the Industrial Research Assistance Program, commonly known as IRAP. In 2018, the Government of Canada designated IRAP as one of four flagship programs that will consolidate support initiatives and focus on providing customized support that innovative Canadian businesses need to succeed and grow.
The uniqueness of IRAP has been the method in which it provides services and support to companies through a network of field staff known as Industrial Technology Advisors. These people deliver both advice to our clients to further their business growth, and in some situations, make the case for IRAP to fund their client’s innovation projects.
The Regional Director provides leadership, direction, and management to a team of specialized field staff for effective program delivery. Directors share the responsibility as an advocate with NRC’s stakeholders in the region and work at evolving meaningful engagements with our partners. The incumbent supervises and directs approximately 13-15 geographically-dispersed Industrial Technology Advisors (ITAs) who deliver IRAP services to SMEs. The Director ensures that the team’s activities are aligned with an array of common objectives in order to comply with the program’s mandate and mission.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
University degree in science or engineering from a recognized university. A combination of a degree in another field and extensive experience in the innovation landscape may be considered. Preference may be given to candidates with a complementary degree or diploma in business, management, administration, finance, or marketing.
A thorough security clearance process will be applied.
For a Secret Clearance, verification of background information over a period of 10 years is required. Individuals must have lived in Canada for a sufficient period of time to enable the security screening process.
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
