Regional Director, Government Relations (Saskatchewan) – Regina, SK

Job Description

CCUA is the national trade association for the Canadian credit union industry. Our team leads and participates in initiatives to build successful, competitive, and growing credit unions in Canada. We provide support to our members through advocacy, research, and value-add services.

We are hiring for a Regional Director, Government Relations (Saskatchewan) reporting to the Vice President, Government Relations. This role advocates on behalf of Saskatchewan credit unions with governments at all levels, with a strong provincial focus, and builds relationships with government leaders, members, and sector partners to benefit the credit union system.

Responsibilities
  1. 1. Build and maintain strong relationships with credit unions
    • Build and maintain relationships with credit unions across the province to strengthen our advocacy agenda.
    • Coordinate and prepare communications to keep members informed about government relations issues, including briefing materials for meetings, teleconferences, email communications, and weekly GR newsletter updates.
    • Identify opportunities for credit unions to provide input on emerging issues.
    • Present government relations items at credit union sector meetings.
    • Liaise with regional credit union groups, meetings, and events.
    • Act as primary point of contact for members in the region/province.
  2. 2. Regional government relations management
    • Lead CCUA’s government relations strategies and activities in Saskatchewan.
    • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political activities to identify issues affecting credit unions.
    • Foster relationships with federal and provincial legislators to raise awareness of the sector’s economic importance and advance objectives.
    • Develop submissions on behalf of the credit union sector to influence public policy, legislation, and regulation; some responses are to government consultations and some are proactive.
    • Create networking opportunities or leverage events so credit union representatives can meet key legislators.
    • Manage one full-time staff member who reports to this position.
  3. 3. Enhance regional grassroots advocacy support
    • Promote and develop grassroots government relations capacity within the region.
    • Work with CCUA’s Manager of Federal GR to implement national advocacy strategies regionally.
    • Design regional advocacy strategies to advance provincial priorities.
    • Liaise with credit union representatives to influence participation in national and provincial advocacy activities.
    • Collaborate with regional centrals and member credit unions to ensure consistent delivery of CCUA’s strategies, tactics, and messaging.
    • Prepare regional advocacy materials and briefing notes for use with legislators and external stakeholders.
  4. 4. Manage CCUA’s resources for the region/province
    • Lead a small regional government relations team and provide leadership, coaching, and performance management.
    • Plan, develop, produce, and implement government relations initiatives to advance credit union interests with provincial and federal governments.
    • Lead regional hiring when required; oversee deliverables and budget for consultants and contract staff; manage regional operating budgets.
  5. 5. People Management and Leadership
    • Lead and support staff with performance management, job description accuracy, professional development, engagement, and a psychologically safe environment.
    • Conduct regular check-ins, 1-1 meetings, and team activities to foster open communication.
    • Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting and reviews.
    • Support professional growth and development opportunities for team members.
    • Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and alignment with organizational values.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (public policy, public administration, business, law)
Experience
  • 5+ years of relevant political, government relations, or public policy experience
  • Minimum 5 years in a people manager role

  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • In-depth understanding of how governments function
  • A strong network in the provincial government of Saskatchewan and relevant departments
  • Ability to write, research and produce correspondence, briefings, and presentations
  • Ability to distill complex policy ideas into plain language
  • Ability to work across political party lines to represent member interests
  • Discretion, tact, independence, and sound judgement
  • Ability to work independently and in distributed teams
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities within deadlines
Other Information
  • Working Conditions: Flexible location (remote or office in downtown Regina) with periodic interprovincial travel. Travel will be scheduled and supported to ensure full backing for employees. This model provides remote work flexibility with opportunities to engage across provinces.
  • Physical Requirements: No significant physical effort beyond day-to-day movement.
  • Communication: Internal and External communications with peers, credit unions, legislators, regulators, and stakeholders to build consensus and positive policy outcomes.
Start Date and Position Details

The target start date is Monday, October 13th, 2025, aligned with our annual Hike the Hill event. This supports immersion in the sector and CCUA community.

Position Details: Full-time, Permanent

Salary Range: $100,400 - $125,500, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary will be commensurate with education/experience.

Location: Flexible work location with access to the downtown Regina office and periodic interprovincial travel.
