Job Description:

Role Summary

The Regional Director, Business Development, Group Retirement Services (GRS) role for western Canada is a key business development & sales leader role for retirement savings plans coming from our Corporate Accounts distribution channel.

You would have responsibility for building out key advisor relationships in British Columbia in an effort to attract new clients to Sun Life Financial.


What will you do?

  • Create & maintain outstanding relationships between GRS and the main pension & group savings advisors in the specified territory;

  • Consistently achieve annual new business sales targets, adding to Sun Life’s industry leading market share;

  • Use in-depth understanding of the DC recordkeeping business to lead all sales opportunities generated either by way of a formal request for proposal (RFP) from advisors or generated directly where the opportunity presents itself;

  • Work effectively with internal resources to co-ordinate and lead the creation of a client specific solution for each sales opportunity;


What do you need to succeed?

  • Advisor and Client focus: quickly assess potential needs, translating these into a unique client/advisor experience offering;

  • Outstanding relationship building skills especially among members of the employee benefits advisor community;

  • Strong sales skills including: negotiating, influencing and communicating effectively both written and verbal;

  • Working with the Finance area to develop an appropriate pricing structure, assembling and preparing a team for the short list presentation; delivering an outstanding sales presentations to potential clients;

  • Well developed understanding of defined contribution pension plans and group savings products / service environment, including: product design (registered & non-registered savings), client administration & recordkeeping, investment services, employee communication, plan sponsor communications;

  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills, including the ability to: anticipate obstacles; apply new information to analyze a situation & generate a range of possible solutions; learn fast from past situations; use problems as development opportunities;

  • Display an entrepreneurial mindset, including understanding key competitors and formulates strategies to gain competitive advantage;

  • A well refined ability to discern the key factors influencing a buyer's decision-making process;

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including superior presentation skills involving audiences of decision-makers who have varying degrees of knowledge about the group savings environment ranging from expert to limited;

  • A coaching style that influences all members of a sales opportunity team so an entire sales presentation team performs well in every sales situation;

  • High degree of self motivation and an eagerness to achieve industry leading sales results;

  • Demonstrates a high degree of personal accountability for results;

  • Willingness to travel to build new relationships as well as to participate in sales related presentations;

Assets:

  • Previous DC sales and/or client service background developed while working in the group savings recordkeeping environment;

  • Experience and existing relationships within the advisor community;

  • A financial services professional designation.

This role will be responsible for the British Columbia region with the successful incumbent located in Vancouver.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
