About the Role
Environmental Defence Canada (EDC) is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities. EDC is looking for a Regional Coordinator that would support our efforts to engage communities in the GTA. This role is part-time with about 8-16 hours per week at a rate of $24 an hour.
Purpose of the Role
We know that community connection and civic engagement is at the heart of real and effective environmental change. By connecting people with nature and neighbors, we can build more resilient communities in a changing climate. The Regional Coordinator would be leading Outreach cohorts and supporting our efforts to engage communities regarding gardening, hiking, biking, food security or anything else they’d like to see within their neighbourhood.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting outreach to local groups
Mapping out events the community can participate in using Google MyMaps
Participating in or leading events
Coordinating with a team of Outreach Staff to support with public events
Building a volunteer network
Planning and/or executing canvassing campaigns as needed
Participating in message development and new subscriber acquisition tactics
Creating written content for a digital newsletter or guides
Assisting in project budget reconciliation
Skills
Ability to engage with the public in a friendly and professional manner
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A passion for the environment, civic action and community engagement
Strong written storytelling
Is well connected to local news, natural and built public spaces, services and people that call the Hamilton community their home.
Balance competing priorities and takes initiative
Event planning with an equity and inclusion lens
Location
This role is hybrid, based in Hamilton, ON and requires access to a vehicle.
