Regional Clinical Supervisor, Community Counselling

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is seeking a skilled and culturally grounded Regional Clinical Supervisor to lead and support mental health and wellness counselling services across the Beaufort Delta Region. Based in Inuvik, this position plays a central role in improving the mental health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities by offering clinical leadership and advanced therapeutic services within a culturally safe and trauma-informed framework.


Reporting to the Regional Manager, Community Wellness and Support Services, the Regional Clinical Supervisor provides expert clinical direction and supervision to Community Counsellors and Child and Youth Counsellors. This role ensures that counselling services reflect the cultural values of the region and are delivered in alignment with NTHSSA standards, ethical guidelines, and relevant territorial legislation including the Mental Health Act and Child and Family Services Act. The successful candidate will also provide direct advanced counselling, participate in regional strategic planning, and contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of community-based mental health, substance use, and family wellness programs.
The Regional Clinical Supervisor will mentor staff across remote communities, guide care coordination, teach clinical theories and skills, and provide crisis response leadership when required. Travel to surrounding communities is expected, as well as occasional on-call duties to support communities after critical incidents. The position requires exceptional cultural competency, strong clinical knowledge, and the ability to lead staff in isolated areas.


The responsibilities of this position include ensuring the delivery of quality and culturally appropriate counselling services; providing clinical leadership, supervision, and education to counselling staff; supporting interdisciplinary collaboration across agencies; participating in crisis intervention and community response; and contributing to service planning and evaluation across the region.


Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  • Master's degree in counselling psychology, clinical psychology, or social work with three (3) years of relevant counselling experience in a scope of practice or experience restricted to addictions, mental health, and/or family violence.
  • Or bachelor's degree in counselling psychology clinical psychology, or social work with 5 years of relevant counselling experience in a scope of practice or experience restricted to addictions, mental health, and/or family violence.
  • The incumbent must also have one (1) year of experience in supervising or leading a team in a Mental Health and Addictions setting.
