Job Summary :
The Refrigeration Technician Journeyman reports to the manager and is responsible for the commercial installation, testing, and balancing of energy management systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, and cold storage facilities. The role may also involve project execution within established deadlines and budgets. Refrigeration equipment includes refrigerated shelving units, glass-door coolers, bunker-style units, and walk-in refrigerators. Installations may occur at new construction sites or involve replacing existing refrigeration equipment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Install, program, and test control systems for HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting in a grocery store and cold storage environment.
- Install soldered copper pipes, including configuring 90-degree, 45-degree fittings, diagnosing water leaks, removing cases from trucks without damage.
- Install PVC drainpipes, recognize major case types, set superheat specifications, uncrate and hang blower coils, and install thermostatic expansion valves.
- Locate refrigeration leaks, fabricate hangers, supports, identify pipe sizes and fittings, power wash air-cooled condensing units, and layout complex coolers.
- Coordinate job setup, including sourcing and securing equipment, resources, and travel arrangements.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including OSHA and local regulations.
- Follow building and safety codes during equipment and control installations.
- Communicate effectively with customers, building owners, contractors, and support staff to ensure efficient project completion with minimal pipe interruption.
- Complete projects on time and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain an organized and accurate truck inventory and adhere to vehicle maintenance guidelines.
Qualifications :
- Completion of advanced (Block 4) courses plus at least 8,000 hours of relevant work experience.
- Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Certification with Interprovincial Red Seal preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in commercial refrigeration, preferably in supermarkets.
- Knowledge of commercial refrigeration and computer-controlled systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 60 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, overhead work, ladder climbing, and working at heights.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends, with travel across Atlantic provinces.
- Mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and strong communication skills (verbal and written).
