Essential qualifications

Occupation Certification

GL-MAM-00 and GL-MAM-10: Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (Commercial – 313A in Ontario or provincial equivalent).

GL-MAM-10: Possession of a valid Gas Technician 1 Certificate, or provincial equivalent.

Notes:

  • Candidates holding a military Qualification Level 5 (QL5) must obtain the 313A prior to appointment.
  • Candidates holding a military QL5 qualification must obtain a valid Gas Technician 1 Certificate prior to appointment.

Experience

GL-MAM-00 and GL-MAM-10: Experience in the field related to the trades licence held. Experience in the operation, maintenance, and installation of residential, commercial, industrial, or institutional heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration units and systems.

GL-MAM-10: Experience in the operation and maintenance of building HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Asset qualifications

Asset Certifications: First Aid, CPR, Fall Arrest, WHMIS. Asset Experience: experience using word processing and spreadsheets.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job): English essential; Competencies: Working effectively with others; Showing initiative and being action-oriented; Thinking things through; Demonstrating Integrity and Respect; Communication (including writing, speaking, and listening).

GL-MAM-10: Ability to resolve challenging system faults in HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Organizational Needs and Operational Requirements

  • Willingness to be on standby or a call-in list and to respond after hours; willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as per the collective agreement.
  • Security clearance: Reliability; valid Ontario G1/313A and DND 404 driver’s license where applicable; valid Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certification; ability to wear PPE; confined space work; ability to travel for training; able to work in hot/cold environments; able to obtain necessary training.
