What’s The Role

Shell is seeking a Refinery Products Blend Scheduler to join its team in Scotford.

Shell’s business requires the ability to quickly respond to changing market conditions and production capabilities to deliver the most value. The Refinery Products Blend Schedulers lead blending and scheduling activity for all distillate products (Diesels, Jet Fuel) and gasoline (regular and premium) for the Scotford integrated asset.

You lead blending and scheduling activity for the integrated Scotford site, ensuring alignment with business objectives to capture market opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Blending products (Diesels/ Jet fuel, and/or regular/premium gasoline) for the Scotford Refinery.
  • Interfacing with Calgary commercial Trading & Supply pipeline, truck, rail and marine schedulers, and other Trading & Supply personnel, to manage product supply to customers.
  • This includes managing inventory at Scotford Refinery for rail loading, and at the Sherwood Marketing Terminal (SMT) which distributes a significant volume via truck sales and serves as the staging area to inject into two product pipelines to outlaying terminals.
  • Tracking and optimizing product quality giveaway across the assigned product portfolio and leveraging Scotford operations personnel to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Issuing daily operating instructions to hourly production workforce indicating how the various blending systems are to be operated.
  • Providing off-hours support for blending and oil movement operations (tank farm operators) as needed on a rotational basis.
  • Coordinating seasonal product recipes with commercial Trading & Supply schedulers to ensure successful blend-up and blend-down is achieved for products across the supply chain, while minimizing giveaway.
  • Validating blend recipes produced by the linear program (LP) model and translating the monthly operating plan (MOP) into a detailed schedule to provide clear direction for Operations. Close coordination with the Refinery Process Unit Scheduler is required to ensure processing unit operations are optimized.
  • Providing key inputs for internal and external financial and production benchmarking and mandated reporting including but not limited to margin variance analysis (MVA).
  • Providing basic vacation coverage to the other scheduler and blender roles within the Refinery Asset Optimization team.
  • Leading continuous improvement projects in scheduling and blending, including but not limited to leveraging automation and digital technologies.
  • Coordinating with the other schedulers and blenders (and Economic Model Coordinators) needed improvements to the scheduling model to sustain useability of the tool and incorporate any automation and best-practices promptly.

The individual should be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in an ever-changing and fast-paced environment. As the Refinery Asset Optimization department assists Production, extended coverage outside standard working hours may be required based on business need.
