The Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) is hiring a Senior Control System Specialist and a Lead Control System Specialist on a permanent basis on our Technical Services team to work on-site in Regina, SK.

We are seeking skilled technical professionals to join our team at the Co-op Refinery Complex in two exciting roles. What you’ll do

Lead Control System Specialist:

  • Oversee and maintain control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS, HMIs, and supporting infrastructure), ensuring accuracy, reliability, and security through proactive troubleshooting, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance.
  • Lead system design, integration, and optimization, including developing control logic, programming standards, equipment specifications, documentation, and alarm management to improve system performance and operator effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports by assigning work, guiding professional development, and resolving escalated technical issues while fostering a culture of engagement, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Support projects and turnaround planning by providing technical expertise, defining work plans, budgeting, and leading system upgrades or migrations to ensure long-term reliability and compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve hardware/software issues, implement new technologies, and deliver cost-effective, innovative automation solutions.
  • Champion continuous improvement by standardizing practices, implementing best-in-class automation strategies, and driving mid- to long-term control system strategies across the refinery.

Senior Control System Specialist:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the design, integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of multiple control system platforms, ensuring operational safety, reliability, and compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Plan, execute, and support complex control system projects (DCS, PLC, SIS, automation upgrades), delivering practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain control systems, analyzing hardware and software health, resolving complex issues, applying vendor updates, and addressing obsolescence and standardization needs.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards for control system design, operation, and maintenance, ensuring consistency, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage vendor and stakeholder relationships, evaluating contracts, overseeing deliverables, and collaborating across departments to achieve project and operational objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and knowledge transfer to team members in the achievement of work and project goals.
Who you’ll work with

The Team: This Lead position will have a Senior Control System Specialist and a Control System Specialist as direct reports and this Senior position will act as an individual contributor, both reporting into the Superintendent – Process Control on a team that prioritizes technical excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Who you are

You are looking for a career in Engineering & Engineering Technology and:

  • For the Lead position: Have 8+ years experience working with control systems and/or performing field troubleshooting and maintenance in a heavy industrial setting. Leadership experience would be considered an asset.
  • For the Senior position: Have 6+ years of experience working with control systems and/or performing field troubleshooting and maintenance in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Have a degree, diploma, or journeyperson certification in a relevant engineering or instrumentation discipline (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Have a P.Eng, C.Tech, and/or A.Sc.T designation.
