Job Summary:

Reporting to the Program Manager of the Central Referral Office, and under the general supervision of the Central Referral Team Coordinator, the Referral Assessment Nurse works within the centralized referral team using nursing knowledge and skills to triage, assess and coordinate new patient referrals to CancerCare Manitoba

The Referral Assessment Nurse communicates and collaborates with the Referral Office team, multidisciplinary team, referring community and patients to ensure patients referred to CancerCare Manitoba are seen in a timely manner by the appropriate Disease Site service provider, undergo appropriate diagnostic tests and have access to support as they enter CancerCare Manitoba. The Referral Assessment Nurse will participate in wait time data collection processes.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Current registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong understanding of patient-centred care
  • Basic computer skills including keyboarding, data entry, email and internet use
  • Physical and mental health to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
  • Satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Three (3) years nursing experience within ambulatory/oncology
  • Knowledge of CancerCare Manitoba Referral process and triage experience
  • Proficient with MS Word/Excel/Outlook
  • Experience with electronic charting
  • Experience within the referral office or a referral office setting
  • Ability to speak French
