We are currently looking for a hardworking, charismatic individual to join our team as a Red Seal Licensed Machinist at our Guelph, Ontario location.

The Red Seal Licensed Machinist is responsible for precision machining, fabrication, assembly, set-up, and operate both CNC and conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and component. The Machinist will operate a variety of machine tools to cut or grind metal, plastic, or other materials to make or modify parts or products with precise dimensions, inspect machined parts and tooling in order to maintain quality control standards and any other duties required.

Shift: Monday to Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed and plan best sequence of operations.
  • Must be able to draw and generate programs with GibbsCAM, SolidWorks, etc., as well as make programs on CNC controller on shop floor.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate speeds and feeds in order to complete work in a controlled and safe manner.
  • Perform quality control on pieces produced to ensure they are within the proper specifications.
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
  • Prepare etching solution and immerse metal parts or workpiece into the etching solution to remove unwanted portions.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools.
  • Maintain a clean workspace.
  • Make recommendations for continuous improvement in efficiencies in the machine shop through enhanced methods and/or specialized shop equipment/tooling purchases.
  • Report all safety and personnel conflict related issues to your manager.
  • All other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the programming and operation of CNC equipment and the ability to operate manual machinery found in the Engineering Machine Shop.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Licensed Machinist.
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD/CAM and solid modelling software for design, tool-pathing, and customer file evaluation and validation
  • Extensive experience working with numerous and varied materials including metals, plastics, composites, and wood.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior staff an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of CAD/CAM systems which includes GibbsCAM, ability to set-up, program and operate CNC machines using controllers, estimating experience as well as material selection proficiency.
  • SolidWorks knowledge is an asset.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to offer creative solutions.
  • Ability to plan and multi-task.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity for type of work
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to stay on feet for long periods of time.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Able to work on a team but be self-motivated and independent at times.
