SMS Equipment is seeking a Red Seal Journeyperson Machinist for our Fort McMurray, AB branch. The role requires following detailed specifications and operating lathes, boring mills, mills, and drills to produce precise parts in a high‑quality environment.

Base wage is $73.45 per hour with additional premiums. The position involves shop and field work on various customer sites, with a 14x14 day/night rotation and a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Journeyperson Machinist.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar role is required.
• Heavy equipment experience is required.
• Ability to safely perform work in both confined spaces and working-at-heights environments is required.
• Line boring experience is required.
• Strong organizational skills.
• The ability to use precision measuring tools.
• The ability to follow instruction and be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Possess a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, acute safety awareness.
• The ability and attitude to ensure compliance to all workplace health and safety policies.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.

What You'll Do

• Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches if necessary.
• Measure and mark metal and other materials/fine tolerances required.
• Think logically and keep up with changes in technology.
• Set up and operate tools, which may be computer numerically controlled, to perform precision machining operations.
• Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.
• Interpret work order and technical manuals.
• Complete job specific reports and paperwork as needed.
• Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety.
• Motivated and able to work in a challenging environment with minimal supervision.
• This role works in the shop and field as required.
