Wage: $23.42 - $25.80/hr

Responsibilities
- The Recreationist develops knowledge about clients in order to respond to their individual and group needs through a process of formal and informal assessment.
- Plans, implements, facilitates, and evaluates individual and group programs suited to the individual needs of the participants.
- Provides input to the monthly calendar of events utilizing program planning and development.
- Contributes to client care plans with attention to therapeutic and individualized goals and interventions.
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team with a focus on the client’s best interests.
- Emphasizes and encourages participation utilizing client-centered approaches tailoring to strengths, abilities, needs, interests, previous lifestyles and values.
- Transport residents to and from activities.
- Assists with orientation, integration and ongoing supervision and evaluation of volunteers and students (if required).
- Adapts recreation interventions and programs to meet the needs and modifications necessary for successful inclusion for all clients.
- Contributes to the Client Care Plan through assessments and care conferences.
Education & Experience
- Minimum 2 year college diploma or post diploma certificate in recreation and/or leisure studies, or therapeutic recreation, or gerontology
- Or active enrollment in such a field of study and completion will be obtained within 1 year
- Or current registration with recognized therapeutic recreation association in Ontario
- Eligibility for registration with recognized therapeutic recreation association in Ontario within one year
- Experience in working with clients with Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia/disabilities
- DementiAbility Methods: The Montessori Way and Gentle Persuasive Approach preferred
- Food Handlers Certification and First Aid Certification an asset
