About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Recreation Therapist is a member of the collaborative health care team, providing support to residents, families and inter-professional team members through therapeutic intervention to support holistic functioning of residents. The Recreation Therapist provides assessment, intervention plan development, evidence-informed interventions and evaluation of recreation therapy services. Interventions are provided to groups or individuals in a long-term care setting related to the resident’s leisure needs and overall plan of care. The Recreation Therapist is responsible to oversee the delivery of the overall recreation therapy service for a program or team, travel to other sites will be required. Where the role requires a Recreation Therapist designation, the provider works within the standards and competencies of a Recreation Therapist.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor of Recreation specializing (Major) in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • Minimum of two years' experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with dementia
  • Previous experience working with older adults
  • Experience in working with various populations/disability groups preferred
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • Knowledge and application of organizational Therapeutic Recreation assessments and processes
  • Comprehensive Program Planning – organizing service delivery
  • Risk management strategies and application for the population and service
  • Diagnosis-specific procedures
  • Responsive Behavior plan development
  • Understand roles of the recreation associate and therapeutic assistant
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation And Benefits

$35.83 - $46.37 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
