The Opportunity

The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.

The Recreation Worker facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills, knowledge, relationships, and personal connections.

What Is In It For You
  • Assist in developing, planning, and implementing daily recreation and leisure activities in the home and community, reflecting AgeCare’s philosophy and approach.
  • Create and maintain engaging environments that support meaningful resident activity and participation.
  • Maintain good communication with residents, families, friends, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
  • Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ ability to participate in activities, updating care plans as needed.
  • Support departments in fostering resident engagement.
  • Lead programs that support and maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
  • Participate in evaluating the recreation program and quality improvement processes.
What You Will Need
  • Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Graduation from a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field from a community college or university.
  • Or enrollment in a community college or university in a relevant program, with the intent to complete within three years.
  • Alternatively, a health care-related diploma or degree with skills and experience in providing recreation and leisure services, including planning, assessment, care planning, therapeutic programming, and supporting resident engagement in a health care setting.
