Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Recreation Therapy Assistant for Woodhall Park Community in Brampton. Starting rate aligns with the collective agreement and ranges from $23.24 to $25.87 per hour, depending on experience and shift. The role focuses on meaningful recreation, resident engagement, and care plan execution.

You will support activity calendars, encourage resident participation, and contribute to a positive living environment, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Diploma/degree in Recreation/Leisure studies or Therapeutic Recreation.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in Long Term Care.
• Strong oral and written communication.
• Knowledge of programming needs for older adults diagnosed with dementia.

Responsibilities

• Provide recreation and leisure activities including outings as per policy and care plan.
• Contribute to and sustain a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed needs.
• Assist in planning for resident area activity calendars according to care plan goals and resident preferences.
• Identify opportunities for residents to share skills or knowledge with others inside/outside the residence.
• Identify appropriate therapeutic recreation goals and interventions on care plans.

As a Recreation Therapy Assistant your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Providing for recreation and leisure activities including outings in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and resident plan of care within the scope of practice.
• Contributing to and sustains a plan of care to meet residents’ assessed need.
• Assisting in planning for assigned resident area activity calendars in accordance with the care plan goals and preferences of the residents of each Care community.
• Identifying and encouraging opportunities for residents to share special skills or knowledge with others, inside and outside of the residence.
• Identifying appropriate therapeutic recreation goals and interventions on the care plans of identified residents.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

• Diploma or degree in Recreation/Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized college or university.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Long Term Care industry.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of programming needs for older adults diagnosed with dementia.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
