Job Outline:

The Recreation Therapy Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the Recreation Therapists in the direct provision of recreational opportunities for patients on rehabilitation or complex care units. Being a member of the Interprofessional team, the Recreation Therapy Assistant will be responsible for implementing individual functional intervention plans, therapy groups and/or special events, in collaboration with other health care professionals, volunteers and learners,

Education & Qualifications:

• Completion of Diploma in a recognized Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation & Leisure program
• Experience working with individuals with varied medical diagnoses and both physical and/or cognitive impairments in a Therapeutic Recreation setting
• Experience in Rehab/CCC/Palliative Care an asset
• Demonstrates a commitment to client centred care and possesses an attitude of respect and sensitivity towards clients with varied backgrounds, abilities and education status
• Demonstrated excellence in communication both, written and verbal
• Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team member
• Current registration statuswith TRO and/or membership with Therapeutic Recreation Professional Association preferred
• A basic understanding of medical terminology and proceduresrequired
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
• Demonstrated satisfactory job performance and attendance history required

Hours:

Evening or weekend shifts may be required

Salary:

Minimum - $31.97/hour; Maximum - $37.66/hour
